You can:

a) Use TextEdit, included in the Applications folder. It is very basic, but very powerful. When you save your resume, save it as a Word document (.doc).
b) Purchase and open Pages--an application that ships with iWork. On your platform, I believe the highest version you can support is '08. iWork is a powerful office suite, which does everything Office can, and a whole lot more!
c) Purchase and open Microsoft Word--an application that ships with Microsoft Office. The highest version you can support is Office 2008. For doing a resume, Word comes highly recommended, as you have templates and advanced formatting support.

If you do not have the office suite apps listed under b and c, you can either use TextEdit, which is much harder for a beginner to use (for instance, you set spacing, tabs, and most paragraph options manually--at least in older versions of the program), but TextEdit will work for you.
